Women & Child Development Programs

Gender justice have been YRA’s one of the non-negotiable core values. Right from beginning YRA’s interventions in Human Rights includes Women’s Rights and many efforts have been made for Gender equality, Women’s empowerment and Violence against women in rural areas of Vidarbha region. Domestic violence is the most common gender discrimination and exploitation in our society. Both men and women are equally responsible to sustain this culture based on discrimination. Many efforts by the Government and civil society are being made to end the violence against women and bring in the gender equity but since it is a very complex issues various manifestations achieving gender equity is a long drawn process. The organization believes in promoting maximum participation of women groups in the development process so that they can work towards their own betterment and empowerment.

Special Cell for Women and Children in Crisis –

Playing its role, YRA has been running Counselling centre at Bhandara in collaboration with the Women & Child Development department and the Police department since the year 2006. This centre, over the years has supported and assisted a lot of women in distress. The main motto of this centre is to bring back the self-esteem and self-respect to the distress women. YRA has been working as a mediator between police machinery and women and children in crisis through this centre.

Objectives of the special cell are

  • Rebuilding violated women’s self esteem, self worth and dignity.
  • Offer immediate services in cases of family violence and atrocities against women in the form of police assistance in registering criminal complaints and in any other matter.
  • Providing Institutional help Counselling Providing Referrals to families’ service, agencies and other services including medical, psychiatric, educational & vocational.
  • Providing Legal aid and be a liaison between police and organizations for women & children.
  • Creating awareness among women themselves among professional groups & general public of the atrocities committed against women and children.

Our society has also given an unconscious approval to violence against women. This is attitudinal problem so that counsellor negotiates the family members and resolving the problem. Our worker determined to make available a life of dignity and reach out to the oppressed and distress. The YRA staffs providing the services in grass root level in 7 talukas in Bhandara district of Maharashtra. YRA’s quality work inspired the department of women and child. They invited YRA to provide training on PWDVA – 2005 to the officers. YRA also took and awareness campaign in the district in collaboration of the government.

CHILDLINE Collab Center-

YRA have been running a CHILDLINE Collab Center at Bhandara from the 15th July 2019 and so far registered and dealt with 400 children cases. CHILDLINE is a national, 24 hour, free emergency phone and outreach service for children in need of care and protection. CHILDLINE 1098 services is a critical component of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 to help children in distress. Provision of this service is ensured through a Public Private Partnership between the Ministry and CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) who are supposed to monitor quality of 1098 services and to ensure that children are connected expeditiously with the Juvenile Justice System and services available on ground. In this regard, CIF and District based CHILDLINE units are required to engage with State and District Administrations continuously.
